Our first unit in grade 1 was all about the body systems and senses. To conclude the unit, the students created books with the knowledge they had gathered throughout the unit. As a whole class, the students first made a list of what you need to make a book. From this, as a class, we created a rubric so that the students knew what to do.
The students were super excited about making their books, and worked for
several periods on it. They did use Epic as a resource, and showed that they can do research
independently.
One of the points they mentioned while creating their list was that a book needs a reader. So by the end of the week, when they all
finished their books, we invited kindergarten and grade 2 to read our books too.
