Book Day and the Pleasure of Reading
October 26th is the schools’ first Book Day event. It was a suc-cession of exciting events and a wonderful reading journey for teachers and students. “I wish I were a student of the school!” said parents as the event was “live-broadcast” to them.
Book Day and All-School Procession at Wahaha Wonderland
Students came to school dressed up as book characters for a costume pageant. There were Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, minions, fairies, Li Bai the poet saint, Lao’zi the philosopher, the avengers, as well as monsters, celestial gods, heroes, princ-es and princesses from ancient and modern legends and tales. The audience was amazed by the DIY costumes of teachers and students.
Book Day and Lecture of Children’s Stories
The story lecture was given by Jian Ping, a well known writer. For 40 minutes students listened with undivided attention and shared their understanding with the lecturer.
Mr Jian Ping acknowledged our students’ love for reading and the schools’ efforts to offer students early reading and artistic experiences that will remain with them for a life time.
Book Day and Independent Reading and Stories in Classroom
Teachers and students turned classroom doors into book covers by creative use of their self-made materials. Parent volunteers joined classes to share stories with students in discussions and role-plays. Kindergarten classes watched and learned about shadow puppetry. The whole school was in a mood for reading.
Book Day and Clue Game
For the upper grades, students engaged in solving problems given by teachers, and based on the keys which were clues for the game, went to different places to perform certain tasks. It was an exciting team-building activity.
Book Day and Bookmark DIY
A great variety of bookmarks were de-signed by students of different grades, and will accompany them in their future reading experiences. The Book Day cultivates in students a love for reading, and will grow into a passion which is exclusive to good books and which students can always turn to in their future life.
