Through this week’s rainy days, we have had a very productive time here at WIS: with inquiry-based learning activities spanning from animal shelter making and presenting; to basketball technique training and evaluating.
Inquiry-Based Learning
In our IB initiated programmes at WIS, we embrace and act on the educational research showing that learning happens best if youapply your knowledge and skills in meaningful activities. Our approach to teaching and learning is based on inquiry-based learning, which moves the pedagogy from teacher directed to student centred. This means that the students are guided by the teachers and encouraged to ask questions, conduct research, work collaboratively and produce something as part of a final assignment; within a particular context and related to local and/or global real-life situations.
Concord Academy
This week we have had a visit by the Concord Academy Head of School one of the top private high schools in the U.S. to share with our Middle School students his insights into American boarding school life today. It was an intense session with students from both WIS and WBS – it was most appreciated by everyone attending. He also managed to meet with some of our parents. The alumni of this prestigious high school include the Principal of Harvard University, Drew Gilpin Faust; the daughter of former US President Kennedy; and the Queen of Jordan.
