Dear Families,
We have some exciting events coming up soon. December 5th we will be having a Walk-A-Thon event here at WIS, more details will be shared soon about this fun Saturday event, stay tuned.
As an IB school we work hard each day to ensure that student agency is present in each classroom and throughout the school building. What is student agency?
WIS works to ensure that learning for each student is personalized, relevant, and contextualized. Through our IB-PYP & IB-MYP methods, students are provided agency which allows them to be active participants in their own learning and engages them in the design of their experiences and the realization of their learning outcomes in ways that are appropriate for their developmental level.
Students at WIS have a choice and voice in their educational experiences as they progress through competencies. Our teachers work to provide opportunties where each student is able to harness their own intrinsic motivation to learn and take ownership of their own learning.
This is done by:
1. Creating a culture of inquiry and creativity
2. Emphaizing relevance over engagment
3. Sharing learning objectives
4. Ongoing feedback
5. Allowing for refelction
What are our new programs and offerings at WIS? Current staff are working in action teams to improve the following areas from our already rigorous and holistic educational program:
- Curriculum
- Chinese Language Program
- Co-Teaching in Mathematics
- Parent Involvement
- Literacy Programs
We have made many improvements this year at WIS and with the trust and support of all of our families we will continue to ensure we are reflective in our student-centered decisions making WIS both rigorous and balanced.
A reminder to all parents, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher often with face-to-face visits and email communications. Ensuring that we are communicating often will ensure that your child is supported fully and we are able to listen and address any concerns you have.
Thank you all for your valued support.
