Grade 2A & Grade 2B combined together to create a project for both Earth Day and Worlds Ocean Day. They learned about the impact that plastic waste has on our planet and ways to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Reduce is cutting back on that amount of waste we create. Reuse is when an object is used again for a similar or new purpose. Recycling is when an object is altered for use in a different purpose.
Using inspiration from the artist Dale Chihuly, students create a sculpture from plastic bottles to create a chandelier. The bottles were collected, washed, prepped, painted and cut. The students then using string, tied the plastic spirals around a bamboo globe frame.
The students were also taught how you can make other works of art using recycled materials such as jellyfish and paperbag stars.
