Emily’s Story
Ms. Emily is a passionate educator with 17 years of experience teaching at the MYP level and leading teams at an American boarding school. Her time teaching in the classroom, living in a dorm with students, coaching athletic teams, and overseeing the 100+ students in grade 8 gave her tremendous appreciation for the value of an international education and the potential of young people.
When she is not teaching, Ms. Emily loves to travel and explore the outdoors. She first discovered a love for experiencing new cultures while studying abroad in college and has continued to nurture that love independently and with her family. This is their first time in China and both Ms. Emily and her family are very excited to get to know Hangzhou and to join the Wahaha community. Ms. Emily is a firm believer in the power and importance of an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning. Seeing the connections between subject areas helps to foster students curisoity and understanding, as well as their ability to apply that knowledge in the real world. Whether collaborating with colleagues to design authentic interdisciplinary learning experiences, including a year-long course, or incorporating elements of other disciplines in her own teaching practice, she has worked to put this philosophy into action.
