As the Wahaha International School Debate Team continues to achieve excellent results in various competitions, more and more students are curious: What is debate? Is debate just about arguing? Are Debate Team members naturally good at speaking? Is debate helpful for learning?

Why They Fell in Love with Debate?
Many people think that debate competitions are highly specialized competitions that require exceptional language talent.
However, for Roger, a member of the 5A class who has successively won the 2022 Asian Cup Chinese Debating Competition and the Zongheng Cup International School Chinese Debating Competition, the opportunity to participate in the debate team was simply a poster he happened to see during lunch.
efore that, he knew nothing about debate except that he enjoyed watching the famous TV debate show “I Can I Bibi”. However, his playful personality encouraged him to gather the courage to join the debate team. After several competitions, he achieved good results time and time again and realized that he had fallen in love with debate.
On the other hand, Catrina, a student from G6A, had a completely different story. She had long been aware of the charm of debate and proactively joined the debate team under the guidance of teacher Bessie, hoping to improve her public speaking skills, logical thinking, and sense of responsibility.
To Ms. Bessie’s eyes, debating is a test of willpower and patience, and is the best course for logic and self-expression.
Behind the eloquent and articulate speeches on the debate table are weeks of diligent preparation.
At Wahaha International School, we place great emphasis on providing education in critical thinking to enhance our students’ independent thinking and analytical thinking abilities.
Ms. Bessie also revealed that the school is about to officially establish a Chinese debate club, and in the future, more WIS students who have a passion for debate will be invited to explore the fun of debate together.
Of course, debating is just a microcosm of the many academic projects at WIS. WIS has always spared no effort in nurturing the interests and hobbies of every student. Teachers from various subjects have been guiding students to push beyond their limits and explore new areas. Outstanding achievements have been made in various competitions such as the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad, the American Mathematical Contest (AMC), STEAM, and language competitions.
As we move forward, we will strive to attain greater heights and discover even more beautiful vistas.
