Time rushes by swiftly, and the Student Council elections held in September seem like they were just yesterday. In the blink of an eye, November arrived, and the WIS Student Council has already been fully engaged in various tasks. Enthusiastic and spirited students have truly become our “leaders”.
Today, let’s step into the Student Council and get to know some of the students there.
She’s an ambitious leader and a diligent learner
Firstly, let‘s meet our Student Council President, Sherry from Grade 9.
“Student Council to me is not only a symbol of a group of students. We’re not like a random organization. To me, Student Council is more like a platform for students to share their ideas and learn through trial and error. In this new academic year, we aim to create a better environment for our school.”
Sherry, with her outstanding leadership and passion for student affairs, stood out. As the leader of our Student Council, Sherry is dedicated to creating a united and vibrant campus community.
In fact, on regular days, Sherry is a very active student. She not only actively participates in various school activities but also joined other Wahaha Schools peers in a customized science and innovation summer camp organized by MIT for Wahaha Schools.
During the summer break, she visited major universities in Boston, and attended foundational physics theory courses and biotechnology classes at MIT, exploring cutting-edge technologies like CRISPR-Cas9 (DNA editing technology used in treating diseases).
She even visited MIT labs to experience using machines to explore bacterial uniqueness, combining her knowledge of sound, circuits, light, vibrations, and more to create her own project.
“This was a valuable and meaningful MIT summer programme, where I made new friends and learned to be independent. The courses offered at MIT were really interesting and we were able to utilize various machines and special tools to enhance our knowledge and skills. All the famous universities we went to were awesome, and I even discovered my future academic goals. I highly recommend everyone to go and visit! It will be an unforgettable experience.”

Leadership is about turning imagination into reality
“To me, Student Council is not merely a symbol of students but also a platform for sharing ideas and thoughts. In the new year, we will provide more opportunities for students to provide feedback to help make the school better.” Sherry is enthusiastic about the WIS Student Council’s development plan.
Of course, a great journey cannot be completed solely by the captain. Luckily, within the Student Council’s leadership team, she has her “right-hand” individuals: Vice Presidents Tanmay and Ella, as well as Treasurer Ayrad.
G9, Tanmay
“To me, the Student Council isn’t a group of students that’s been formed for the sake of leading. I think that the Student Council is somewhere where everyone can speak out about their opinions and everyone can work together to collaborate with each other and do what they like and do what is good for the school.”
Tanmay is mainly responsible for organizing various WIS activities, including sports matches, movie nights, treasure hunts, flea markets, and more.
G7, Ella
Vice President Ella stated, “I also had to work on my time management skills to ensure that I had enough time to prepare and pursue Student Council activities.”Ella is primarily responsible for helping and supporting school management and communicating with students to ensure they are satisfied with our school’s system and activities.
G9, Ayrad
“For the Student Council, I have made many mental preparations as I had to present myself in front of a large audience.”Ayrad is mainly responsible for creating WIS Student Council logos and campus memorabilia, including water bottles, towels, necklaces, bracelets, and more.
Aside from the Executive Board’s robust support, the Student Council also has a ‘fresh force’. From 2023 to 2024, four committees and an operation department are set up in the Student Council. Committees include the Events and Activity Committee, Public Relationship Committee, Welfare Committee, and Sports and Athletics Committee.
We hope to provide them with more opportunities to showcase their talents, actively involve students from all grades in the school’s development, prioritize students, and better serve their growth.
At the recent Diwali celebration, the Student Council provided invaluable support to the school.
Embracing multiculturalism is an important learning theme at WIS. Recently, we celebrated Diwali, also known as the Hindu festival of lights. It symbolises the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”.
During the celebration, Tanmay led fellow members of the Student Council in exploring the history and significance of this festival, introducing Indian traditional culture and artistic forms to everyone.
Thanks to the efforts of the Student Council, this year’s Diwali celebration truly shone brightly.
“Only education that inspires students to educate themselves is true education.” The establishment of the WIS Student Council is a bold attempt to cultivate and develop student leadership. We look forward to the Student Council members taking on responsibilities in the future and truly becoming the leaders of tomorrow.
