“At WIS we develop responsible learners for the future.”
Message from the Principal

Jelena Vugdelija
Executive Principal
It is both an honor and a pleasure to extend a warm welcome from Wahaha International School (WIS) and to share more about Wahaha Schools with you.
Since joining Wahaha Schools in 2020, I have had the privilege of serving as Vice Principal of Wahaha Bilingual School from July 2022 before being appointed to my current role at WIS. I embrace this opportunity with deep gratitude and commitment. Prior to these appointments, I spent six years in Qingdao, where I was first introduced to international education within a Chinese cultural context. This experience opened an entirely new world to me, even though I had already taught in three different countries before moving to China.
With experience accumulated throughout the years, in diverse cultural backgrounds, and working with different educational groups, I am really proud to be a part of Wahaha Schools – It is a unique educational group that truly cares about education, and values each child and their individual growth. WIS as part of it, follows such inspirational guidance and enriches it with a vision towards international education, which is not only innovative in the way of curriculum and approach but also with enormous respect and integration of the Chinese culture. A mix like that is one of the pillars of our aim – to have future global citizens, accept them from various backgrounds, educate them in China with a strong sense of international mindedness, and “fly out” into the world.
Using the International Baccalaureate (IB) as a framework in both accredited programs of PYP and MYP in combination with specific courses tailored for our students, we thrive to find firstly one of the learner profiles in each student and extend it to exploring them all throughout the year(s).
Personally, education, especially prior to the high school level, should focus on discovering the best in each student either in academic subjects, developing social skills, specific sports, different arts, or any other aspect of life. Education at this stage should be a platform for children to recognize their potential in a specific field, be fully encouraged to surpass their own expectations in it, and have resources and teachers as main carers! At the same time, they are fully supported in areas that they tend not to excel in as that’s what their future will bring, lifelong learning. Such an approach comes across in all parts of Wahaha Schools and perfectly fits in the WIS model and mission that we share with all members of our community.
A very special thanks for expressing your interest at WIS. I look forward to welcoming you to our vibrant and inspiring learning environment.
