WIS 7th graders are participating in a data collection and analysis project. We asked all Wahaha students to guess the number of jelly beans in a jar, and then entered the data into a spreadsheet. The beans were counted, and a winner was announced (a Kindergartener from WBS). We will be displaying the data on a series of graphs and thinking about what the data tells us about Wahaha students’ ability to estimate large numbers. Important concepts include measures of center and spread, data display, and what makes an outlier. We will also be taking some samples from the jar to make estimates of different flavors. Students are very excited to get to take some jelly beans home when we’re done!
