Stretching
Middle school students have been learning how to stretch out their muscles in preparation for rigorous physical activity, as well as participating in some fitness routines which are based solely around dynamic and static stretching. This will help students to understand their body and what works best for them, whilst building endurance and strength. In the coming months, students will begin learning more about muscle development and be learning the vocabulary alongside a variety of fitness methodologies.
Fitness Challenge
Grades 4 & 5 have been working together on bodyweight movements such as push ups, sit ups, planks and a variety of different balances in preparation for their fitness challenge. This will require students to perform as many bodyweight movements in one minute, working together with a partner to help record results and use the data from each challenge to monitor their progress.
Reactions
Grades 2 & 3 have been learning about techniques to improve their reactions, this includes working on posture, making judgements and agility. Students have had their first experience using a ‘reaction ball’ which can bounce in a number of different ways, keeping our students on their toes at all times.
Hula-hoop Exploration
Grade 1 students have been working on developing their locomotor and manipulative skills by practising a variety of movements with hula hoops. This included walking around the world (balancing and walking around the hula hoop) and blast off (holding the hula hoop up and letting it drop, whilst standing inside, without touching the hula hoop).
